The 1st ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting

Indonesia's global leadership, demonstrated through its G20 Presidency in the Financial Track, continues under its ASEAN 2023 Chairmanship, particularly in the economic domain with a focus on the financial pillar. This leadership will result in concrete actions during the upcoming 1st ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (AFMGM), scheduled to take place from March 28-31, 2023, in Bali.  

In this context, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Dody Budi Waluyo, emphasized that Indonesia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023 extends its leadership established during the G20 Presidency. Indonesia's role as Chair in ASEAN 2023 is part of a strategic journey toward the creation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025, envisioned as a region that is interconnected, inclusive, and prosperous by 2025.  

Head of the Fiscal Policy Agency, Febrio Kacaribu, highlighted that the ASEAN economy remains stable. In fact, for 2023, international organizations such as the IMF, World Bank, and OECD regard ASEAN as an epicenter of growth, even amidst the various challenges faced in 2023. This perspective inspires a collective spirit to advance towards a more stable and sustainable region.  

The Ministry of Finance and Bank Indonesia will host approximately 24 meetings, encompassing main sessions (from the Deputy to Principal level) and supporting meetings under the theme “Discover Indonesia.” The theme will prominently feature the cultural heritage of Sulawesi and Kalimantan, while also showcasing Indonesia’s vibrant tourism sector.
